It is with deep sadness that we honor the life of Tom Kostyra, a talented young surfer whose life was tragically cut short at just 23 years old in a traffic accident in Papeete, French Polynesia. His passing has left the surfing community in mourning, both locally and across France.
Tom was a passionate and dedicated surfer, deeply connected to the ocean that shaped his life. Born in Tahiti, he developed his skills from a young age and went on to become a former member of the Surfing League of Brittany development program. His time training alongside Julien Miremont helped refine his craft and fueled his commitment to the sport he loved.
Known not only for his talent on the waves but also for his kindness and authenticity, Tom made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether in Polynesia or mainland France, he built strong connections within the surfing world, earning respect for both his skill and his character. In recent years, he returned to Tahiti, where he shared his passion as a surf instructor, inspiring others to embrace the ocean just as he had.
Tom’s journey was one of movement, growth, and deep love for his roots. His smile, energy, and generosity will be remembered by friends, students, and fellow surfers alike. His presence in the water and in the community will be profoundly missed.
